PRINCIPAL, SAHARA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CAIRO

MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

It has always been a dream since the first day I’ve walked in to Sahara International School to give something different for our students; something that’s worth their capabilities and broadens their mindsets allowing them always to dream BIG and reach their dreams!

I found this dream inside all Sahara associates who started taking steps towards achieving their dream back to 1990 since the very first day of this warm atmosphere, charming place called Sahara had started. This dream to deliver the finest education in a caring atmosphere is becoming true every day with all those teachers and staff who are giving their students not only knowledge but values and beliefs. I thank all Sahara’s big family whom I consider partners and story writers, writing a successful story in each and every student's life. I am privileged and honoured to work with such a devoted team every day.

I consider teaching as one of the most difficult professions ever. A good teacher works with all his/her senses just to deliver a proper concept or something worthwhile to a student’s knowledge. However, nothing can be more rewarding and heartwarming than raising a student’s awareness, developing a child’s skill or even changing someone’s life. As Aristotle said, “the roots of education are bitter but the fruit is sweet.”

For our valuable teachers and staff, on behalf of all Sahara’s parents, students, and board of directors: No words can express how thankful we are, we truly appreciate your efforts. Please keep your spirit always high, as you’re shaping a new generation, very distinguished and full of passion.

I thank our students whom we consider our leaders tomorrow and who are genuinely our utmost reward of success. They are giving real meaning to what we're doing and a value to all our efforts. You are different, passionate, distinguished and glowing personalities. We are proud of you, and we will always be there for you till you shape your journey the way you want it to be.

We always thank our parents who give us the trust and have great faith on our hands that bring up the most precious thing in their life: their children!

BRITISH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

The British System is a system that incorporates the curriculum of the United Kingdom and runs all the way from K to12.  It is a system that highly encourages critical thinking and analysis.

The school follows the British Curriculum as stated by Cambridge University. The school gets to enjoy access to a variety of resources offered to us via the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) board. The school also selects the books which are on the CIE recommended list.

The British System of education is highly recognized and revered worldwide and students who graduate from this type of education are generally well known for their academic candour.

Early Years Foundation Stage at Sahara International School follows the UK National Curriculum Framework, which believes that EVERY child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and the age of five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its’ own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.
At Sahara International School, we care to implement the four guiding principles that should shape practice in early years settings. These are:
• Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
• Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
• Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
• Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years’ provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
EYFS curriculum at Sahara International School covers Literacy, Numeracy, Understanding the World, French and Arabic, in addition to other activities that are necessary to their development as Art & Design, Physical Development, ICT, Music and Character Building.
Moreover, based on Sahara’s vision, teachers at Sahara International School get professional training in child psychology and classroom positive discipline periodically. They believe that kids perform better when they feel better.

Development Matters EYFS

Our academic curriculum has been based on the Cambridge framework which has its roots in the British National System of education. The Primary Checkpoint for stages one to six covers the core subjects of English, Math and Science. Additionally, the school has introduced a fourth subject – French – which together with the other three subjects forms the final grade. Our students develop essential skills in literacy, numeracy and scientific inquiry while covering a good knowledge base.
Our teachers who have been trained by both Cambridge and the publishers providing the academic books as approved by Cambridge have adopted several teaching methods to deliver the skills and knowledge as outlined in the framework. Among these methods are group work, teacher-led learning, exercises from workbooks and worksheets, individual work, visits and field trips, games and imaginative play, practical work and information technology integrated techniques.
The testing system is based on a wide range of progression tests aiming to monitor the progress of our children towards the end of the primary stage. At this point, they sit for a Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Achievement test conducted and marked by the Cambridge International Examinations Board. Such tests provide the students with a benchmark for their performance in the following stage, namely Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint (Years 7 and 8).
